Leader Development: The Ideal Team Player Series

Designed and delivered a leadership development training session as part of Desert Financial Credit Union’s Ideal Team Player leadership series. This recurring program was created to strengthen leadership capability among senior leaders and middle management through structured learning and facilitated discussion based on Patrick Lencioni’s The Ideal Team Player.

The training introduced core leadership principles and provided a structured framework to support reflection, dialogue, and practical application within leadership roles across the organization.

Desert Financial Credit Union recognized the importance of developing strong leadership capability to support organizational growth, team effectiveness, and a consistent management culture.

Senior leaders and middle managers needed opportunities to:

  • Strengthen leadership and team development skills

  • Align leadership behaviors with organizational values

  • Reflect on their effectiveness as team leaders

  • Engage in meaningful discussion around leadership practices

  • Apply leadership concepts in practical, workplace contexts

The organization implemented a recurring leadership development series to provide structured, ongoing leadership education.

Developed an instructor-led leadership training session introducing key concepts from The Ideal Team Player, focusing on the core leadership virtues of humility, hunger, and people smarts. Senior leaders facilitated these sessions with their staff to establish and align these leadership principles throughout their organizations.

The session was delivered in a formal classroom environment and designed to:

  • Introduce foundational leadership concepts

  • Provide structure and context for the leadership development series

  • Encourage open discussion among leadership peers

  • Create opportunities for reflection and shared learning

  • Establish a common leadership framework across management levels

The presentation served as both an instructional session and a catalyst for continued leadership development conversations.

Applied adult learning and leadership development principles to ensure the session was relevant, engaging, and applicable to experienced professionals.

Key strategies included:

  • Connecting leadership concepts to real-world management challenges

  • Encouraging peer discussion and shared leadership experiences

  • Supporting reflection and self-assessment

  • Establishing a leadership framework that could be reinforced over time

The session was designed not only to introduce concepts, but to support long-term leadership growth and organizational alignment.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Instructor-led facilitation techniques

  • Leadership development frameworks based on The Ideal Team Player

This leadership development training helped participants:

  • Develop a shared understanding of effective leadership behaviors

  • Reflect on their leadership strengths and growth opportunities

  • Strengthen alignment with organizational leadership values

  • Engage in meaningful peer dialogue and knowledge sharing

The session contributed to Desert Financial Credit Union’s broader leadership development initiative, supporting stronger team leadership and organizational effectiveness.

By investing in structured leadership development, Desert Financial Credit Union strengthened leadership capability across management levels, supporting improved team performance, leadership consistency, and long-term organizational success.
